2017 – a year in review.

Although I am a little late with this I still want to briefly reflect about my last academic year. Clearly 2017 has been hectic, not least due to a job change and a subsequent move from Weimar, Bauhaus-Universitaet Weimar to Vienna, Vienna University of Technology. 2017 started with a publication of a book chapter on […]

Reflections on tourism & gentrification.

I had the pleasure to contribute to an inspiring book discussion on tourism & gentrification organized by Yuri Kazepov, Yvonne Franz and Roberta Cucca at the University of Vienna yesterday. The book we discussed, together with the editors Maria Gravari-Barbas and Sandra Guinand, was “Tourism and Gentrification in Contemporary Metropolises“. After an introduction of the […]

Airbnb in European cities.

I spent the last two days at an inspiring workshop on Airbnb in European cities. It was organized by Christian Smigiel and Angela Hof at the University of Salzburg, Geography Department. I went there together with my colleagues Roman Seidl and Leonhard Plank (TU Wien) to present our research on Airbnb in Vienna (wherebnb.in/wien). The […]

The Austrian Association of Institutional Investors. A comment.

I wrote a short comment on a press release of the Austrian Association of Institutional Investors (in German). They call for an “evidence-based housing policy”, but present incomplete evidence in their press release. Among other things, they suggest that rent increases in Vienna are a “myth”. I’m posting the comment below. It first appeared here: http://urbanizm.net/4890627/der-verband-fur-institutionelle-immobilieninvestoren-und-die-faktenbasierte-wohnungspolitik/   Der […]

New paper out in New Political Economy

I’m happy the following paper is now out: The Revival of Private Landlords in Britain’s Post-Homeownership Society. I have been working on this piece with Richard Ronald (University of Amsterdam) during a short Post-Doc fellowship in Amsterdam. It relates to our ongoing work on asset-based welfare policies and housing property, and how these policies fail, with […]

Book discussion: Tourism and gentrification.

On December 1st, I’ll be on a panel discussion about the upcoming book “Tourism and Gentrification in Contemporary Metropolises. International Perspectives”. The book was edited by Maria Gravari-Barbas (University Paris 1) & Sandra Guinand (University of Vienna). I’m looking forward to discussing the book together with the editors and Bas van Heur (Vrije Universiteit Brussels). […]

Call for papers for special issue: The rise of multiple property ownership in times of late homeownership.

I’m editing a special issue in the International Journal of Housing Policy together with Cody Hochstenbach (University of Amsterdam) and Christian Lennartz (Rabobank NL). The call is available below: The rise of multiple property ownership in times of late homeownership While homeownership has notably grown and spread during the second half of the 20th century […]
