Interview with Spanish Newspaper ElDiario: Why housing cannot be treated as a normal market good

Spain is currently preparing a new housing law. In this context, housing policies are widely debated. Vienna is apparently often referred to in these debates and held up as a best practice example. Against this background, I gave an interview for the online newspaper ElDiario, together with my colleague Sarah Kumnig (Vienna University of Economics). Besides talking about the pros and cons of Vienna’s policy approach, we also discussed why housing markets systematically fail, how they differ from banana markets, and why housing cannot be treated as a normal market good.
